{"id":1012,"date":"2022-11-01T07:04:16","date_gmt":"2022-11-01T07:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shalomeo.com\/blog\/?p=1012"},"modified":"2022-11-01T07:04:16","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T07:04:16","slug":"position-sensitive-plastic-scintillator-for-beta-particle-detection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shalomeo.com\/blog\/position-sensitive-plastic-scintillator-for-beta-particle-detection\/1012.html","title":{"rendered":"Position sensitive plastic scintillator for beta particle detection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new segmented plastic scintillator detector has been developed for recoil-beta tagging experiments at the Accelerator Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The detector consists of individual <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shalomeo.com\/Scintillators\/Plastic-Scintillators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plastic scintillator<\/a><\/strong> bars arranged in two orthogonal layers, and the scintillation light is detected using silicon photomultipliers. Performance of the new detector was tested using fusion-evaporation reaction 40Ca(36Ar, pn)74Rb, and the results are discussed here. It was found that for beta particles seen in the main silicon detector, plastic scintillator can tag high-energy beta particles with a 48(10)% efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An energy calibration method using Compton edges of gamma ray transitions is described in the present work.
