CaF2 lenses are widely used in infrared and ultraviolet spectral ranges for applications requiring elevated transmission. Its exceptionally elevated threshold for laser damage makes it beneficial for laser applications.
The material displays a small refractive index ranging from 1.35 to 1.51 within CaF2 lenses’s180 nm to 8.0 μm. Calcium fluoride material is robust and may be expected to withstand several years’ exposure to normal atmospheric conditions. AR coatings are available for UV and IR wavelengths.
