Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) crystals has a wide transmission spectrum of 350nm to 5200nm, LiNbO3 crystal is a kind of ferroelectric materials which has a trigonal crystals system, LiNbO3 crystals has excellent piezoelectric, electro-optic, nonlinear optical properties, it has negative uniaxial birefringence properties. These properties makes LiNbO3 became an crystal with versatile applications.
Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices. For its excellent piezoelectric effect, LiNbO3 are used to make the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices, which are widely used in the telecommunication and mobile phones. Shalom EO offers the stocked and custom SAW grade LiNbO3 wafers.
Electro-optic Modulator and Q-switches. Due to its large electro-optic coefficient, optical grade LiNbO3 crystals are suitable to make the electro-optic modulators and pockels cells, especially at the infrared wavelength range. Comparing to other Q switch materials, LiNbO3 pockels cells has a lower half-wave voltage and zero residual birefringence. MgO doping (often 5%) LiNbO3 crystals are often used to improve the damaging threshold. Shalom EO offers the LiNbO3 crystals and MgO:LiNbO3 crystals for EO modulators and Q-switches, LiNbO3 pockels cells are also offered.
Periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) Waveguide is chieved by electrical poling with periodically structured electrode, the ferroelectric domains alternatively to the +c and the −c direction with a period of typically between 5 and 35 µm. The shorter periods of this range are used for second harmonic generation, while the longer ones for optical parametric oscillation. Hangzhou Shalom EO offers the stocked and custom MgO:PPLN crystals, they have been used in Second Harmonic Generation (SHG), Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO), Sum Frequency Generation and Difference Frequency Generation (DFG) applications.
