Scintillators
CZT (Cadmium Zinc Telluride) detectors, made from CdZnTe single crystals, are a kind of solid-state semiconductor radiation detection material that exhibits high efficiencies and
energy resolution in detecting X-rays and gamma rays. Unlike typical
scintillation detectors, CZT detectors directly convert X and gamma rays into
electrical signals, eliminating the need for additional optoelectronic
conversion devices. CZT detectors possess superior energy resolution at room temperature
compared to traditional detectors and can directly measure α and β rays. With
cadmium, zinc, and tellurium elements offering a high atomic number and
density, CZT proves an exceptional material for detecting various types of radiation like gamma radiation, and alpha and beta particles. These detectors offer swift response times, and reduced background
noise, and find wide applications in medical imaging, nuclear physics, security
screenings, and various other fields.
