Laser Crystals and Components
“Laser” is actually an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation”, when the laser gain medium is pumped by external energy source, it is stimulated and emit light beam, and then the beam is reflected in optical cavity to generate coherent laser light. The laser medium can be solid, gas, liquid and semi-conductor. Laser crystals is a kind of optical crystals used in solid state lasers. Laser crystals is often doped with various types of ions, these ions helps to stimulate the light emission to amplify light at a coherent wavelength. Common geometries of these crystals includes cuboid, cylindrical, and thin-disk. The shape of the crystal along with the doping density greatly influence the output laser beam.
